thorns, petals and stems: an urban window performance

making an installation from roses in studio window
thorns, petals and stemsurban window performance

My studio window became the site of an urban window performance and gallery installation on Mother’s Day, May, 2013.

I performed the ritual of cleaning 250 long stemmed red roses in the studio window as people walked by, looked in, stopped to watch, or continued walking. As I cleaned each rose, I set it into grid frames hanging in the studio completing a gallery exhibition which transformed over four weeks to become an exhibition of handmade paper objects embedded with rose petals, stems and leaves.
